Orange County Flooring Contractor Introduces Truly Luxury LVP

By / Home Improvement / Comments Off on Orange County Flooring Contractor Introduces Truly Luxury LVP

Most people consider luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring a low-end option for flooring. Once upon a time, in the product’s infancy, LVP flooring lacked durability and beauty. Not today. Inspired Remodels, the premier Orange County flooring contractor, proudly includes the CORETec Premium line of LVP flooring in their showroom offering. Here’s why.

Truly Luxury Flooring for Luxury Homes

COREtec Premium products bring you the thickest plank flooring you can imagine in an LVP plank. You enjoy enhanced stain resistance and unbeatable comfort and beauty without the hassle of wood floor care.

The CORETec wood plastic composite (WPC) core provides a softness underfoot that is impossible to achieve with traditional hardwood flooring. It also offers the assurance of a core that won’t warp or buckle because it is completely waterproof.

The stone plastic composite (SPC) found in other flooring products results in a flooring plank that is cooler and doesn’t absorb impacts as well. Why is impact absorption important? Stand in the kitchen for an extended period of time to prepare a large meal or special dish, and your body will tell you why it is important.

Recently, flooring contractors like Inspired Remodels gathered in Dana Point to learn about the latest improvements in flooring products. Many manufacturers displayed beautiful flooring.

What impressed the flooring experts about CORETEec planks is the integrated foamy, resilient coreThis core absorbs some of the pressure from the feet, reducing stress on the ankles, knees, hips, and lower back.

Standing or walking on an extremely hard surface (think ceramic tile, hardwood) requires muscles to constantly make little adjustments to maintain stability. This creates muscle fatigue. It seems contrary, but the slightly softer surface provides more give, and this reduces strain on leg and core muscles. When you walk, the WPC core disperses the impact, so less force transfers to your body.

Better Than Wood?

Wood and bamboo flooring requires acclimation before installation. Skip this step and deal with warping, buckling, and anything but a beautiful floor.

LVP requires no acclimation period. In addition, COREtec planks feature beveled edges that add to plank definition and realism when installed.

The texture and appearance of the graining on the planks match. You see wood but enjoy a surface that requires much less maintenance.

These LVP planks offer pet- and kid-friendly options that aren’t available in natural wood. Busy families appreciate the forgiving and easy-care option afforded by COREtec premium LVP flooring.

How to Avoid Being Scammed by General Contractors

By / Bathroom Remodel, Home Improvement, Kitchen Remodel / Comments Off on How to Avoid Being Scammed by General Contractors

Choosing to remodel your home – and selecting the right general contractor to bring your vision to life – is a major decision. For most of us, our home isn’t just where we live – it’s our most valuable asset. Inviting someone into your home to handle a renovation of any size requires a great deal of trust. From a general contractor’s perspective, being entrusted to work in someone’s home is a responsibility that’s not to be taken lightly,

Unfortunately, we have all heard horror stories about general contractors who didn’t live up to expectations. Given these stories,  it’s no wonder some homeowners are cautious when it comes to hiring a general contractor. So how can Orange County homeowners looking to complete a renovation protect themselves from hiring the wrong general contractor, but instead hiring a general contractor they can trust? There are a few simple steps you can take to ensure you’ve found a quality general contractor.

Warning Signs & Red Flags

First off, there are a few general warning signs, red flags, or statements made that could lead you to ask a few more questions or dig a little deeper into the general contractor.

  • “I’m available to start tomorrow,” or something along those lines. If a general contractor has availability to start immediately or soon thereafter, you may want to ask yourself why they don’t have other work scheduled. Some general contractors book out months in advance, allowing for proper planning, product acquisition, etc.
  • High-pressure sales tactics. When you start feeling rushed into a decision, or the pitch takes on that all-too-familiar used-car salesman vibe, it’s time to hit pause.
  • Overall job costs that seem too good to be true. Unfortunately, they likely are! If you receive a few different estimates from different general contractors and one of them comes in much lower than the others, take the time to compare the estimates you’ve received. Ensure you are getting like-for-like estimates, i.e. the contractors are providing estimates on the same scope of work with the same quality of materials. Oftentimes, if you go with the much-lower bid, you may end up seeing more change orders throughout the process bringing your job total up in the long-run.

Credentials Matter

“Jack of all trades, master of none.” Although maybe an extreme example… would you entrust your dentist to perform brain surgery? While both went to medical school and sport the name doctor, that doesn’t make their credentials to do the job equal.

While some tradesmen carry multiple licenses, it would not be recommended to hire a plumber to wire your new bathroom. Or having your electrician remove a wall to create that open-space feel.

Instead, look to hire an Orange County-based general contractor who holds a State of California license (or if you are in another state, the respective state’s license). In California, utilize the Contractors State Licensing Board (CSLB) website to verify a contractor’s license status and credentials. You can search by Company Name, License Number, or even the contractor’s first and last name.

Do some online research of general contractors you are speaking to

Ask for References

For most legitimate companies, you can find online references on sources such as Yelp, Facebook, Google, or even Houzz. However, take the reference check one step further and ask your general contractor for a couple of references you can speak to directly.

Although review websites do their best to eliminate the spam or paid-for reviews from their sites, some testimonials do end up slipping through their review process. If you are looking online and noticing overly generic praise, repeated phrases across multiple review, or a sudden flood of five-star rating in a short timeframe, take the reviews with a grain of salt. They may be a spam or paid-for review to boost the company’s overall rankings.

Instead, ask the general contractor(s) you are considering to hire for a couple of references you can reach out to directly. This allows you to ask any questions you may have, hear from an actual homeowner about their experience, and in some cases, see the finished work firsthand! If a general contractor gives you the “I don’t want to bother my clients” excuse, maybe do some additional online research of your home prior to signing a contract with that specific company or general contractor.

Trust Your Gut!

If  in your conversations and interactions you’re noticing that “ick” feeling or something just doesn’t seem quite right, trust your instincts! While there may be a delay in getting your renovation started as you find another general contractor to work with, you want to find a general contractor that you feel one hundred percent confident with and in. Hiring the wrong general contractor or team can lead to extended timelines, costly mistakes, and potentially costly repairs.

If you are considering a renovation of your home, the Inspired Remodels team would love to speak with you. Having completed hundreds of remodels in Orange County over the last 20+ years, we are confident we can assist you in building your dream space.

Coto de Caza Real Estate Company Top Upgrades That Improve Value

By / Home Improvement / Comments Off on Coto de Caza Real Estate Company Top Upgrades That Improve Value

As a top Coto de Caza Real Estate Company, Inspired Realty frequently fields questions about the value renovations bring to an existing home. As a licensed general contractor and real estate broker, Joe Mueller knows the renovation and real estate markets.

Joe’s top upgrades to improve value impact the interior and exterior of the home.  Here are the top three.

Upgrades for Energy Efficiency

With energy prices continuing to climb and no relief in sight, home buyers all across California look for energy-efficient homes. In sunny Coto de Caza, homebuyers want to control cooling costs too.

Because this gated community of about 4,000 homes lies inland, daytime temperatures rise higher than along the coast. That increases energy consumption.

Coto de Caza homes with solar panels, upgraded HVAC systems, high R value windows, or exceptional attic insulation reduce energy consumption and lower energy bills.

Often, buyers ask for several months of energy bills when considering the purchase of a home.  Upgrades that improve the energy efficiency of your home make it a standout when compared to other homes without these upgrades.

Enhanced Outdoor Spaces

Pools, patios, balconies, and decks increase the usable living space in a home. What the rest of the country calls a “yard” we call a California room.

Upgrades to the outdoor living spaces make your home not only more enjoyable for you but also add value to your home when you sell.

Buyers like to imagine themselves lounging by the pool, grilling and chilling at the outdoor kitchen, and watching the big game in outdoor seating areas.

Upping the appearance of your outdoors increases the value of the indoors. It also gives your home a competitive advantage over other properties when it comes to sell.

Gas fireplaces, upgraded deck surfaces, covered patios, and areas for cooking and eating are all popular outdoor amenities in Coto de Caza.

Curb Appeal

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Your home’s appearance from the street sets the tone for buyer expectations.

Improving the appearance of your home’s exterior improves your home’s value and helps your home sell faster.

Year after year, an upgraded garage door continues to be the one home improvement that returns over 90% of the investment in value. New garage doors provide better insulation, create a fresh look, and make your home look fresh and clean.

In addition to front doors and garage doors, upgraded carriage lights and entrance lights improve curb appeal.

Fresh mulch or bedding materials also delivers a punch of panache for a little money. Remodeling the exterior of your home makes it welcoming to you and inviting to buyers.
